"Don't do the predictable!"
You hear that a lot with respect to interior design, but how often is it practiced?
Certainly it's safer to match styles and colors in a typical way. Then, we always have a justification even though it can render a ho-hum look.
Wood is Wood
Often a contemporary design is set upon a very slick, shiny stained finishes that can hide the wood beneath, leaving an almost monochromatic finish.
Today we find that manufacturers are also providing engineered flooring with beautiful natural finishes.
For fun we found some settings where designers combined a contemporary setting with a natural wood floor. We love the results. Using flooring that some might even term "rustic," these designers have have mastered contrast to create great looking spaces.

The patterns in wood grain can be as fascinating to look at as patterns in a hand-knotted carpet. The oil finish on this white oak floor highlights the natural grain.

The branch knots on this floor are appealing in themselves and also lead the focus of the room toward the beautiful scene at the window.

Here's a match. The natural wood really goes well with the trees in the Park scene outside the window.

This dark oak floor actually contrasts and sets off the clean contemporary setting.

The rustic brick and natural flooring give the furniture in this entertainment room a fresh look.
I try to contrast; life today is full of contrast... We have to change.
