With more pets than children living in American households in the 21st century, it's only natural that the Floor Covering business will respond to the needs of pet owners.

 

We have written in the past about various ways to cope with “accidents” on rugs and carpets.. For example pets and red wine can be removed from wool hand-knotted rugs with water (optimally distilled water) if you act immediately following the accident.

 

 

We've also discussed products that we found to be effective in protecting rugs and carpets so that cleanups can be much easier.

 

Now we're seeing what you might call the “uber-solution” for  broadloom carpets. Ordinarily we apply stain protection to the outside of carpet fibers. Now solution dying during the creation of fibers has made it possible to dye the entire fiber. Every molecule of the fiber is the same color, not just its surface.

 

It reminds us of artificial turf on football fields. If there was ever a place where there should be stains, we should see them on football fields. But of course there are no stains on artificial turf.

 

If some horrible accident does befall this new carpet, harsher measures can be applied to clean it up without fear of rubbing permanent damage into the carpet.

 

This nylon product has been available commercially for quite some time. Now broadloom weavers are producing it for residences.

 

Naturally, color and style choices for this new product are limited compared to conventional nylon carpet, but makers will react to demand.

 

The material is customizable like any other nylon carpet. Designers will have the option to better shape and scale rooms with customized carpets (fabricated rugs) cut to specified sizes.
