A few months ago we introduced you to Brinton’s, a carpet manufacturer from Britain .
Aside from making fabulous carpets for hotels around the world, Brintons offers a varied palette of carpet customizations to make the carpet your own unique, one-and-only carpet.
Now we want to show you another level of floor covering uniqueness: custom hand-knotted rugs.
Have a look at this 5 x 15 rug installed in the private lobby of a Tampa condominium. It was designed here in Tampa, engineered and rendered in Nepal.
Tampa Designer Kelly Taaffe came up with the concept. She worked with our vendor in Nepal, Wool and Silk, to render her image into a rug.
This included combining Taaffe’s colors and adding a few elegant touches during the process.
“I found an image online and submitted the image to Addison/Dicus,” she said. “They sent it to Wool and Silk, the fabricator, and they gave us a number of colors and color positions.
“Then I chose the Yarns and we did a round or two of different yarn placements and numbers of colors.
“The fabricator wove our 2 x 3 sample for us.
“In the process I was able to add the kind of classic cheetah dots inferring, you know a bit of an animal pattern cuz it seems to be timeless.
“We have gotten quite a response from it and and about it!"
After approving a rendering of the whole design and a 2 x 3 woven sample of the rug, she gave the go-ahead to build it.
Wool and Silk delivered the rug in just over four months.
“I sized it to fit like a glove in the client's private elevator lobby, she said. “It is a most delicious central feature and makes the space truly memorable. It is 100% unique.”
If you find that the colors seem to be brighter than those you typically see in a hand-knotted rug, it’s because the Wool and Silk has as special dying process that deepens the color and twists the wool yarn with silk to give it luminescence.
But the company can certainly deliver a more pastel look, if that’s what you seek.
And in any subject matter. One designer made a wedding gift of a custom, hand-knotted rug with a picture of the couple's dog.
