woman wearing a sariIndian saris are the colorful dress/wraps that make India a never-ending festival of color.

Recently rug makers have taken the same silk as that is used to make saris and spun it into a yarn to weave rugs.

The results are always surprising.

Tahiti Ivory Teal

Many of the sari rugs that I have seen have attempted to mimic saris, with deep bold colors. You can imagine these can easily dominate a room.

Tahiti Ivory Teal is much more neutral, making it a more versatile design piece.

The designer has sought a conventional look with the slight hint of a border. But when you look closer, it becomes more abstract. It's versatile enough to play well in a room with any style.

The Whole Rug

This picture does not do justice to the very entertaing detail. It's a trait of silk design, especially sari silk, to reveal itself in countless ways depending on the light and point of view. Keep scrolling down.

The Teal

The "teal" appears mostly blue, but different lighting angles cause it to fade to a more blue-green, occasionally with a patina of sea-green. This rug offers lots of variation depending on where you are or what time of day. In two hours of naturally changing daylight, this rug will make subtle color changes that will draw plenty of comments.

The Gold

The scattered elements of gold are really fascinating. The color is a gold that is not often achieved in rugs. And like the other colors, it evanesces and fades back in as the light changes.

The Texture

The thick knots render the rug's silk as slightly blurred, like an abstract photograph.

The Light Side

From here, the "light" side of the rug, the blue looks more like the rug's namesake, teal

Teal? Blue?

All depends on how you look at it (and when).

Surprise

Fascinating how this rug functions as a neutral, but is endlessly surprising.

We'd love to hear from you if you have any questions about sari rugs. Any of us here would be happy to discuss them or any rugs in our two showrooms.
