When our neighbors at Market Place Interiors did a photo shoot using a beautiful Oushak from the Addison/Dicus showroom, we could not resist doing a before and after.

Oushaks are a style of rug native to Turkey. Prior to the 20th century these rugs were manufactured for middle class homes. Their thick flat weave and informal decorative patterns made them easy and cheap to manufacture.

I'm told that Oushaks were used as packing material to protect more expensive rugs on the long voyages to Europe and America.

At some point someone somewhere in the Western World laid out an Oushak in a room and a trend was born. This trend has lasted over a century!

What a difference this Oushak has made in this setting!
