Fabricated rugs increase in popularity every year. Designers love them. Why not? They give you choices. You pick colors, constuction material and patterns from a huge selection of carpet inventory. Plus you can size it to the inch to scale it to your design.
Here are some tips to make ordering easier.
Pattern Flow
When ordering a fabricated rug cut from a roll of carpet, there are accepted conventions that you should be aware of. Check the examples below. Two rugs with similar dimensions are not similar in shape and pattern flow.
Notice that the width of the fabricated rug is first and is cut across the width of the carpet roll. This is the accepted convention. The rug cutter follows it automatically.
You want to make sure that what you want is what gets cut. Check with us if you have any doubls.
The best way to visualize your order is to simply draw it out free hand noting your desired measurements and a designation of the direction of the pattern with simple lines.
We will make a mockup of your intentions to eliminate confusion.
Here is an example of our mockup.

Interpreting the Showroom Sample
Ordinarily the direction of the pattern flow in a showroom sample will be mirrored by the direction of the sticker on the back of the sample. We are here to check if you have any doubts.

The label tells the story. The pattern on the other side will flow in the same direction as the text on the label

Pro Tip - Pre-cut Rugs
We have a nice selection of samples of precut area rugs in popular sizes. These are cut from popular rug patterns as well. Plus there is a nice selection of neutrals.
Check them out from time to time. One might be a quick and economical solution for you.
Speed
Fabricated rugs have become more popular and the mills have risen to the occation. The speed which they fill orders was unthinkable just a few years ago. Bottom line: be sure of your order. It could be cut and on a loading dock an hour after you placed the order. Take the time to review the order before it's placed. Think: when I place this order, I own it!
CAD is BAD
Do not submit dimensions generated by a CAD program. These can be notoriously wrong. Best to measure yourself if the room is a square or rectangle.
For odd shaped rooms,
Let us measure.
If you shedule a measure with us, you or some decision maker must be present. There are always extenuating circumstances that require discussion and approval.
The Reveal
The reveal (also known as the margin) is the area of exposed floor around the edge of the rug. Can't decide? Lay out some blue masking tape to visualize the reveal and measure the rug based on your tape. We do it all the time.
