Is There a Place for Luxury Vinyl Tile?

We've been thinking that a relatively new flooring product deserves your attention.

Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) has been around for a very long time. Its present incarnation has been available for about two years. It has not enjoyed super wide use, but has received lots of acclaim from folks who have tried it.

Although its similarity to the appearance of wood is almost creepy, we are not suggesting that it be a substitute for wood. But it is an alternative for some design solutions.

More about LVT

The cost? Julia estimates about one half the cost of a comparable engineered wood floor.

You are probably already thinking that this would be great for a pool house, or a child's room or a playroom or even a kitchen.

You'd be right.

Add rental units, commercial units, homes being staged for sale.

Wing chair on Authentic Plank

We were talking about what would happen if the floor got flooded and remained under water for a day or more. That can happen around here.

With a wooden floor, you probably would be fighting with your insurance company to get a new one.

With LVT the worst (water gets under the LVT) would be to remove the floor plank by plank, dry the planks and the underfloor and then reinstall. Good as new.

Care? A damp mop with a mild cleaner does it.
