See Before You Buy

New Technology for Flooring Shoppers

We have long been able to digitally project paint colors on walls of rooms we are designing. Paint companies have made this happen through apps on their respective websites.

Now designers and their clients can upload pictures of rooms and see a variety of floor treatments, mainly carpeting and wood, and see what these floors look like in the room.

These flooring  apps, called visualizers, work pretty well and are free on many websites.

Here's a nice kitchen with a light, wooden floor:

Want to see a darker wood floor?

Your floor selections will be limited to those sold by the vender whose app you are using.

Here is a bright cheery bedroom.

Try it  with contrast.

Carpet Too

This app works well for carpet.

Or lighter?

The app can be very sophisticated.

Notice how the app is able to pick up light and shadow on the floor in this and in the next picture.

Here's an original shot we uploaded:

We added a slightly darker floor with the visualizer.

Notice that the app disappeared the area rug.

This is new and evolving technology which can produce varying results. The good news is that it is free.

In every case you can take your own picture, upload it to the app, and fill the picture with every kind of  flooring available on the flooring company's site. With wood you can even change the lay of the plank 90 degrees.
