Old Motifs - New Colors

This rug was a big seller 10 years ago. It's a classic traditional design. It has a border, a field and in the field a complicated element called the medallion.

Here the three main parts are marked: a border, a field in the center, and medallion in the middle of the field.

Now the pendulum is swinging back to more traditional designs. But not the classic Border/field/medallion layout like Jewel above.

The fields are filled not with a medallion but with traditional decorative motifs.  And most important: the rugs are in current, modern colors.

The field is populated by an ordered rank of decorative shapes.

Furthermore, the color is muted compared to the vibrant burst of colors in Jewel.

Below is a selection of traditional rugs with these popular characteristics.
