Hexagons

Perhaps due to our friends the bees, hexagons have inspired design and awe for thousands of years.

The Star of David is an offshoot of the hexagon. We usually think of it as two triangles, but the space in the middle is definitely a hexagon.

The bees chose the hexagon because it is the most efficient way to store the parts of anything within a horizontal space.

From the mystical to the practical to the frivolous.

Designers choose the hexagon because it suggests strength and stability while fun to look at, particularly on the floor.

We've noticed an increasing interest in hexagon patterns on carpets and rugs. We thought it would be interesting to report on a few examples.

Carpet makers have come up with designs offered in many colors. From the relatively simple beehive look:

To complex and creative variations:

For those looking for a more neutral looking hexagon pattern:

Rugs also display designs based on the hexagon, some more literal than others.

Hive Mind

Hexagon, "beehive," carpet and rug designs can provide a structural aesthetic to a room that is interesting, pleasing, and unique. Try some samples on your next project and see for yourself.
