At the New York Rug Show

The New York Rug Show is a premier, forward-looking gathering and I generally go every year.

Several trends were important. First, the top-of-the-line producers are working hard to make less expensive rugs while maintaining premium quality.

They are doing this by reducing knot counts, simplifying patterns, especially all-over patterns, and employing hand and machine looming using wool  threads.

In addition more traditional rugs showed up in force for the first time in several years. Most had traditional designs, but with updated colors that go well with today's fabrics.

Finally, the Argentinian hair-on-hide producers continue to wow with eye-popping, brain-teasing designs.

Traditionally designed rugs return at NY Rug Shjow

Is traditional rug design making a comeback? Here is an example in light blue and cream that maker, Samad, proudly showed.

Another design from the same collection.

And another, more boldly blue. Traditional designs are coming in more modern color combos to match current tastes.

Rug chat with the Samad brothers.

Here I'm chatting it up with the Samad brothers, David (L) and Malcolm. Continuing the family tradition, both brothers have daughters working with the international firm.

At Tamarian booth. Always worth an extended stay.

The Yerra exhibit always merits an extended look. Lots of choices. Yerra is an exporter of leather rugs from Argentina.

I really liked this hair-on-hide, shearling round rug and nervously bought it hoping that others like it too.

Come in and See for Yourself

I bought a number of rugs and am anxious for you to see them. Check with our "Rugs" section. When NY Rug Show rugs arrive to the showroom, we will post them there.
