Custom rugs can give a space a unique identity.
Tampa designer Mandy Vallowe showed Bob Ford a picture of a rug in a magazine. She thought the rug would work nicely in a condominium she's working on for a client on Harbor Island.
It's like a jigsaw puzzle, only the pieces are improvised straight-sided shapes. Bob developed a sketch for the project.
Then Bob and his crew made a pattern and laid it out on the shop floor. They used the pattern to cut the pieces. When it finally was ready to come together, they wanted to be sure that the pieces fit.
And the pieces fit perfectly as you can see.

"I love black and white," said designer Vallowe. "The home also features shapes like hexagons and triangles throughout. The rug that Bob made plays nicely with that geometry."
Each unique shape is surrounded by contrasting, double-borderwork. Each custom cut piece of carpet is seamed, then beveled by hand.
Custom made rugs are able to be the exact size that you want and can define a section of space exactly like you want. We are finding that designers are using custom rugs more and more.
